Get to know the type and how the radiator coolant works

    Jun 19, 2021, June 19, 2021 WIB Last Updated 2022-11-07T15:25:13Z

In addition to the oil cooling system, another device that plays an important role in keeping the engine temperature at normal conditions is the radiator. The main function of the radiator is to reduce the hot air in the engine cylinder when the combustion process occurs.

To carry out its duties, the radiator requires another element, namely coolant. Then, the radiator will command the coolant to dissipate the heat that occurs in the cylinder wall. So, the coolant used must be resistant to hot temperatures.

Therefore, choosing a radiator coolant should not be arbitrary and must be following the manufacturer's recommendations. Don't just be influenced by the color of the radiator water because it doesn't affect the quality.

There are 3 types of radiator coolant that are often used by manufacturers, namely Inorganic Additive Technology (IAT), Organic Acid Technology (OAT), and Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT).

All three have different functions. IAT, is a type of radiator coolant that is usually suitable for older vehicles and is replaced every 2 years or every 24 thousand miles.

The second type, namely OAT, is a radiator coolant that is usually used by one of the global automotive giants, General Motors. The replacement time is once every 5 years or every 50 thousand miles.

While HOAT, is the development of OAT. So the use and replacement time is also no different.
